Total Yardage: 7,802 yards (South Course); 7,258 yards (North Course)
Welcome to Torrey Pines, America’s foremost municipal golf course. Situated on cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Torrey Pines Golf Complex is home to two championship golf courses: the North and South.
Measuring just over 7,800 yards, the South Course at Torrey Pines is the longest course played in a regular PGA event, and in 2021 hosted another memorable US Open, won by Jon Rahm.
Both courses offer exceptional length and will test your skill with tight fairways, lush rough, and numerous bunkers scattered throughout. The South Course is considered the more challenging track, with the North Course offering some of the most breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean and surrounding bluffs. But don’t get caught up in the scenery. Both courses will punish wayward tee shots and inaccurate approach play to the green.
Another thing to keep in mind – since Torrey Pines is situated along the San Diego coastline, the weather can sometimes be unpredictable. A thick marine layer is common in the early morning, and golfers can expect fog, some wind, and on a rare occasion rain, in addition to the typically temperate climate and sunshine.
Test your skills and take on the challenge of Torrey Pines.
Featured Hole: No. 3 South Course(200 yards, par 3)
Overlooking the hilly, seaside San Diego community of La Jolla, the par-3 third hole at Torrey Pines South Course is truly a sight to behold. Noted as one of the most picturesque par 3’s in the country, a 200-yard, downhill approach is not exactly the easiest shot in golf.
Club selection is of utmost importance at Torrey Pines, and this is certainly no exception. Depending on the prevailing conditions, this can play as short as a nine iron, or as long as a rescue wood.
The general advice is to play it safe and hit the middle of the green. But that is easier said than done. A large sand bunker will gobble up anything short. Go long, left, or right, and you face one of the trickiest up-and-downs that Torrey Pines has to offer.
A par is a good score here. How do you think you will fare? Come and have a go on PGA TOUR 2K23.
