Pebble Beach Golf Links® is often cited as America’s number one public golf course, and once you play it, it is easy to see why. In 2019, it played host to its sixth U.S. Open (more than any other course in the last 50 years), and in 2023, it will host the U.S. Womens’ Open Championship for the first time in Pebble Beach history. Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful golf courses in the world, Pebble Beach hugs the rugged California coastline overlooking the Pacific Ocean. 

Accuracy is key to finding success at Pebble Beach, especially when approaching the greens. The average Pebble Beach green is only 3,500 sq.ft (325 m²), the smallest on the PGA TOUR, and the average green depth is only 26 paces, so the margin for error is minimal. And if that is not hard enough, there are 117 bunkers surrounding these tiny landing areas.

Featured Hole: No. 7 (106 yards, par 3) 

Measuring just 106 yards, this iconic par-3 is the shortest on the PGA TOUR and certainly one of the most memorable. Standing on the tee, you get the opportunity to take in the fantastic, oceanic vista before launching your shot to a green situated 40 feet below you. 

Go too far left, right, or long, and your ball will end up in the Pacific Ocean. The blustery, coastal winds can also play their part, either as friend or foe. 

Sam Snead famously chose to use his putter off the tee, rather than launch a ball into the howling wind. Whereas Eddie Merrins actually aced the hole during a AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am tournament, but needed a 3 iron to do so.
