Master Your Swing: EvoSwing and Shot Types
If you’re looking for unrivaled authenticity and variety in your golf gameplay experience, look no further than PGA TOUR 2K25. This year, realism is dialed up to 11 with all new EvoSwing mechanics for both our swing inputs: Swing Stick and 3-Click Swing. Whether you’re new to the franchise or a seasoned veteran, PGA TOUR 2K25 delivers two ways to experience the real-feel of swinging a golf club in your preferred style.
Experiment with Swing Stick and 3-Click Swing to dial in your preferences and become a links legend. Swing Stick is driven by the player's own rhythm and dexterity, while with 3-Click Swing, you play a reactionary role with gameplay using visual queues to hit the perfect shot.
PGA TOUR 2K25 Swing Settings
Before getting started, you may need to change your swing type. To do this, head into the Profile Menu:
- Step 1 : Open the Quests and Profile menu with Options (PlayStation), Menu (Xbox), or with M (PC)
- Step 2 : Go to “Settings”
- Step 3 : Go to the “Controls” menu, and change your “Swing Input”. You can choose from either “Swing Stick” or “3-Click”
PGA TOUR 2K25 Perfect Swing
One of our goals alongside making the most authentic golf game on the market, is delivering the most accessible golfing experience. Our Perfect Swing difficulty setting does just that! As our new players get used to the complex game of golf, they can have this option to ease that journey, with a swing sure to find its target. And for those low handicappers who just want to kick back and relax before jumping back into MyCAREER, Perfect Swing is perfect for them too.
PGA TOUR 2K25 EvoSwing
EvoSwing is here to introduce a new, more authentic and realistic swing that brings even more real-golf feel into PGA TOUR 2K25. EvoSwing timing adapts to your input mechanics for a tailored “perfect” rhythm, while your swing path is based on your own swing bias as selected during MyPLAYER creation.
Club selection and Shot Type also directly influence additional swing bias applied to your shot:
- Club Bias:
- Driver = 100%
- Woods = 90%
- Utility = 80%
- Irons = 65%
- Wedges = 50%
- Putter = 0%
- Shot Type Bias:
- Full = 100%
- Choke Up = 90% New Shot Type (10% power reduction from a Full shot)
- Punch = 80%
- Pitch = 65%
- Flop = 50%
- Splash = 50%
- Chip = 0%
- Putt = 0%
How to EvoSwing perfectly with Swing Stick
Grab your controller—it’s time to put club to ball!
Watch the EvoSwing HUD at the right and pull the swing stick (Right Stick on PlayStation \ Xbox, Mouse on PC) downward toward the backswing target at the bottom of the meter. This is the Swing Path target and it determines how much push or pull is applied to your shot. As you backswing, the power indicator will begin to expand. Push the swing stick upward to transition to the downswing. If you push the swing stick with the power indicator short of the Transition target ring, it will result in an underswing and a loss of distance. If the power meter goes beyond the Transition target ring, swing difficulty is increased and additional power is applied to the shot.
After perfectly timing your swing cursor to reach the Transition Target, push the swing stick upward toward the Downswing Target at the top of the meter. This is the Contact target. Contact determines how much hook or slice is applied to your shot. While performing the downswing it is important to maintain a smooth Rhythm. If you swing too fast additional power will be added to the shot, which can result in harsher miss-hit penalties. If you swing too slow, power is reduced which will result in less spin and distance. A smooth downswing timing is important for a great shot. Step back and watch your shot fly!
Did it go where you intended? Check your Swing Path and Contact swing feedback. Was it on target but too long or too short? Check your Transition and Rhythm swing feedback. Also remember, that you can upgrade your MyPLAYER’s attributes with Club Fittings! As your attributes increase so too does the scale of the swing targets. The Swing Correction attribute will determine the severity of the additional fade or draw added to your ball’s flight path.
To sum up an EvoSwing shot, using Swing Stick:
- Pull the swing stick downward to move the swing cursor toward the Backswing Target, matching the speed of the power indicator
- When the swing cursor—and hopefully the power indicator—reaches the Backswing Target, push the swing stick up towards the Downswing Target at 3x the speed of your backswing
How to EvoSwing perfectly with 3-Click
3-Click provides a different swing experience from Swing Stick, not only in the input method, but also mindset. With 3-Click you react using visual queues to hit the perfect shot. PGA TOUR 2K’s take on 3-Click is a bit unique in that we use a press, hold, and release to set the power, before the two additional clicks determine push/pull (2nd) and hook/slice (3rd). This approach requires a different kind of reactionary input, which makes controlling power and distance on a shot challenging, yet exciting.
- Press and hold X (PlayStation), A (Xbox), or Left Click (PC). A circle representing your shot power will grow; release the button when you’ve reached your desired power. The red band represents added power—but also added difficulty.
- After you set your power, the Swing Plane meter will begin moving counter-clockwise. Press X (PlayStation), A (Xbox) or Left Click (PC) to stop the meter at the bottom highlighted portion of the meter. The farther you are from here, the more your shot will either push (golfer-facing direction) or pull (opposite golfer-facing direction).
- After you set your Swing Plane, the Swing Timing meter will continue to move couter-clockwise. Press and hold X (PlayStation), A (Xbox), or Left Click (PC) to stop the meter at the top highlighted portion of the meter. The farther you are from here, the more your shot will either hook or slice.
- Finally, to set the Rhythm of your swing you release the X (PlayStation), A (Xbox), or Left Click (PC) to stop the collapsing ring in the center of the meter. An early release will add power to the shot, while a late release will reduce the power of your shot.
Putting
Whether your chosen Swing Input is Swing Stick or 3-Click, putting is quite similar to standard swings. Putts have no swing bias. Here are a few notes when putting with EvoSwing:
- Your backswing determines push or pull on a putt.
- Putt Weight is similar to transition timing—overswing will result in overshooting your target and an underswing will undershoot.
- Putt Rhythm is important, as this too will determine your final power in a shot—too fast increases the power, too slow reduces it.
Shot Types
In PGA TOUR 2K25, there are a variety of special shot types to help you navigate any situation you will find yourself in on the course.
Tee Shots
Shots that can only be performed off of the tee.
- Tee Shot: A full shot that is designed to get the most possible distance off the tee with the club in your hand.
- Power Drive: A full-powered tee shot that adds extra power to the performed swing power.
- Stinger: A full shot that is designed to launch low, climb later and lose a small amount of distance from a Full shot.
- Choked Tee Shot: A full shot with a choked up grip to take a few yards off the carry.
Approach Shots
Shots designed to get as close to the target as possible, when playing off the fairway or the first cut.
- Approach: A standard shot for approaching the green. Performed with all the clubs, except the Driver, from anywhere on the course.
- Choked Approach: A full swing with a slightly reduced carry distance, achieved by gripping the club closer to the shaft. Performed with all the clubs, except the Driver, from anywhere on the course.
- Pitch: A three-quarter shot that is often used when golfers find themselves inside the distance of a full swing using their shortest clubs. Performed with Short Irons and Wedges from anywhere on the course
- Off the Deck: An unconventional and risky shot using the Driver off of the fairway.
- Spinner: A pitch shot with added spin causing it to fly higher, land softer, and roll less. Performed with a Wedge from the Fairway or Light Rough.
- Runner: A low-flying pitch shot with reduced spin allowing it to provide longer roll outs. Performed with Short Irons and Wedges from anywhere on the course.
- Knock Down: A low-flying full shot with added spin allowing it to reduce roll out. Performed with Hybrids, Long Irons, and Mid Irons from the Fairway and the Rough.
Recovery Shots
Shots primarily taken from the rough, designed to get out of a bad situation and around obstacles.
- Recovery: A shot with plenty of forgiveness to get you back on track. Performed with Mid Irons, Short Irons, and Wedges from the heavy rough and other challenging terrain.
- Punch: A low-flying, reduced power shot, great for getting out of the brush and under trees. Performed with Woods, Hybrids, or Irons from any surface aside from bunkers.
- Choked Punch: A full punch swing with a slightly reduced carry distance, achieved by gripping the club closer to the shaft. Performed with Woods, Hybrids, or Irons from any surface aside from bunkers.
- Flop: A high-flying, short distance shot that lands soft with moderate roll. Performed with a Wedge from any surface aside from bunkers.
- Super Flop: A flashy shot that climbs higher than it travels, landing soft with minimal roll. Performed with a Wedge from around the green.
Bunker Shots
Shots from the sand.
- Splash: A standard bunker shot used to get out of a bunker safely.
- Pick: A difficult bunker shot that produces soft landings and reduced roll outs. Performed with a Wedge from the bunker.
- Power Pick: A fairway bunker shot with a lot of power, producing spin, loft, and controlled roll outs. Performed with Irons from fairway bunkers.
- Blast: A very forgiving bunker shot that comes out low and runs out far. Performed with a Wedge from the bunker.
Shots Around the Green
Shots used during the short game, within a specified distance of the pin.
- Putt: A standard shot performed with a putter on the green.
- Tap In: When you’re close enough to the hole, this shot can’t miss.
- Chip: A standard shot performed with a Mid Iron, Short Iron, or Wedge from any surface.
- Bump n’ Run: A low-flying chip shot that lands early and rolls extensively. Performed with Mid Irons, Short Irons, or Wedges from around the green.
- Texas Wedge: A powerful putting stroke intended for use off of the green.
- Lag Putt: A long-range putt that sacrifices accuracy for distance forgiveness, to safely get you close to the cup.
